The Internship Program assists individuals from western Alaskan communities to prepare themselves for management careers in the commercial fishing industry. The internships are structured to provide candidates with the opportunity to observe and participate in the work of one or more of the departments of CVRF or an affiliated fishing company.

Interns report to senior professionals who act as their trainer/mentor. Interns learn technical and administrative skills through job assignments, instructional sessions with their assigned mentor, structured training courses, and a variety of educational experiences such as on-site visits to vessels and fish processing operations.

CVRF intends for each intern to have a full and balanced experience including career development, and cultural opportunities in the area(s) in which the interns are located. A consultant provides cultural and career counseling support to each intern.

Internships are structured based on an individual's interest and qualifications.

Interns are given specific work assignments to be accomplished under the direction of their assigned supervisor and other department staff. These assignments are tailored to the level and rate of progress of each individual intern and are designed so as to expand the competency of each intern and to expose the intern to a broad range of work experiences as possible. An intern's performance is reviewed and documented periodically to ensure an on-going focus on communication and development of skills and abilities.

Interns may participate in meetings (via phone or in person) with the consultant to review professional progress, issues related to working in a corporate environment (business etiquette, diversity) and adjustment to city living (budgeting, personal protection, etc.).
Internship periods generally range from 3 to 12 months in duration.
Interns are provided transportation, housing, and an hourly stipend between $5.65 to $10.00 DOE.
