CAREERS

CVRF has developed a strong network of recruiters who work to help make employment opportunities more accessible to the residents of our region.  In addition we have established partnerships with organizations in the fishing industry and beyond to provide those employers access to qualified applicants to consider for their open positions.  In 2009, the CVRF Employment Program assisted 663 applicants to find work with earnings of over $5 million.

 

IN-REGION

Coastal Villages Seafoods, LLC

CVS proudly provides opportunities for region residents to fish and work.  The Employment Program will begin recruiting for processing positions in February but accepts applications year round for those who want to work for your employer of choice.  CVS will continue to offer starting wages at $9.00 an hour with a $13.50 per hour overtime rate.  We retain good employees by offering the following benefits:  1) Room and board.  2)  Paid transportation with a complete contract.  3)  A $BONUS to those who complete their contract.  4)  Great summer work experience.

BERING SEA

Coastal Villages Crab, LLC

As 100% owner and operator of CVC, we accept applications year round for those interested in becoming a crew member as positions become available on the F/V Arctic Sea, F/V North Sea, and F/V Bering Sea.  There are opportunities to advance; start your career as a crewman or engineer and eventually work your way to become a vessel captain!   Applications are good for one year… Who wouldn’t want great compensation for exciting work, Apply today!

Partner Companies

The Employment program works with several companies based either At Sea or Shoreside (outside the region) as a means to provide other year round opportunities.  Many of the companies based At Sea require 12-16 hours a day, seven days a week, paying at either a percentage based or case rate while the Shoreside based companies require similar hours paying $7.75+ per hour with $11.62+ as their overtime rate.

PROCESS

  1. Submit a completed application and drop it off with your local Community Liaison, or mail it to 711 H Street Suite 200 Anchorage AK 99501, or email it to hr@coastalvillages.org, fax it to 907-375-9100.
  2. Depending on the position and the hiring company, all or some of the following may be required:  drug test, physical, reference checks, background check, TB test, and two forms of identification. 
  3. The completed application will be sent to the hiring company.
  4. If selected for an interview you will be contacted for an interview.
  5. If you are offered employment, orientation will be provided.   We will review necessary details such as what to expect during employment and travel information.
  6. The last step is you accept the job, earn money, complete your contract and come back again next year!

INTERNSHIPS

 

Since the inception of the Community Development Quota program, CVRF has provided member residents internship opportunities with CVRF and a variety of industry partners.  The internship program prepares individuals for management careers in the fishing industry.

To qualify, applicants must have resided in a CVRF community and be considering a career in the fisheries industry.  If the internship requires advanced education, the applicant must have completed at least two years of post-secondary education or three years of general work experience.

PROCESS 

  1. Inquire about internship availability.
  2. Submit complete application.
  3. Obtain approval from:
    1. CVRF Program Department and
    2. Hiring entity
  4. Get hired and perform!

YOUTH TO WORK

The Youth To Work program, created in 2007, is aimed at providing youth ages 14-19 an opportunity to learn about work, and how to support themselves while building self-esteem and self-respect. 

Work tasks may include: helping local elders with everyday house chores such as hauling water, dumping trash, shoveling entranceways, fueling stoves for heating, cleaning house and washing dishes. 

Keep an eye out for this program as it may come to your community!  Selections are based on local CVRF representative availability.

PROCESS

  1. CVRF posts advertisements in May in selected communities.
  2. Apply for the job.
  3. All applications are reviewed and processed for interviews and screening.
  4. Local CVRF representatives conducts interview
  5. Selections and schedules are based on the number of qualified participants.
  6. Hiring paperwork is completed (including a State of Alaska youth work permit).
  7. Perform work and complete daily tasks!
